stay young as you age

Stay Young As You Get Older

We can’t turn back the clock, but we can feel great as time progresses. There are many things you can do to feel good as you age. Omnibus Home Health Care would like to suggest some simple activities and things to be mindful of as we grow up, to stay feeling young.

Sleep well

If you don’t get enough sleep, it can affect your skin. It can cause premature wrinkles and sagging skin. Your body releases a stress hormone known as cortisol, which breaks down the collagen that keeps your skin smooth and springy. *Tip: set up a quiet, soothing bedtime ritual with regular hours, and avoid alcohol, caffeine, and electronics before bed to have a better rest.

Too much sun

We all need some sun, but overexposure to harmful UV rays damages the collagen in your skin and may cause your body to make too much of a protein called elastin. Your skin starts to thicken and feel dry with deep wrinkles and age spots. Don’t forget the lotion and sunscreen. Cover up with hats, long sleeves, and sunglasses when outside. It is also a good practice to make an annual skin screening appointment with your dermatologist. *Tip: use a sunscreen with a rating of SPF 30 or higher.

Stay connected

Staying connected with friends and family is necessary as we grow up — and it can also boost your emotional and physical health. It reduces anxiety, depression, and dementia linked to growing up. And when you look for a social network, remember, it’s the quality of your connections that matter, not the quantity. *Tip: find a new hobby and join a group that shares your same interests.

Volunteer

Your body releases more endorphins when you spend time lending a hand to friends, family, and the community. The calmness, pleasure, and connection you feel when you help someone often makes you want to do it more, making you even calmer and happier. It lowers stress and may even support your heart health and immune system.
