What is Wound Care?
Omnibus Home Health Care provides multi-service home healthcare including wound care. Acute Wounds
An acute wound is an injury to the skin the occurs suddenly. It heals at a predictable and expected rate according to the normal wound healing process. Acute wounds can happen anywhere on the body and vary from scratches to deep wounds damaging blood vessels, nerves, muscles or other body parts.
Everyone is at risk for an acute wound at some point. Active individuals and children are most at risk for developing minor or severe acute wounds. Older adults are more at risk for skin tears and abrasions. Use general caution to prevent acute wounds.
Chronic Wounds
A chronic wound fails to heal in an orderly and timely fashion, and will show no sign of improvement within an 8-week period. Once a wound has become chronic, wound treatments are required in order for the wound to heal.
Common causes of chronic wounds include diabetes, infection, immobility, trauma, surgery and burns. These wounds can take years to heal and cause severe emotional and physical stress.

An infected wound is not just painful and uncomfortable, it’s a disruption to daily life. An untreated wound can be extremely dangerous. Infection can move rapidly throughout the body and cause further complications. If you or a loved one are experiencing a problem with a wound, seek a professional immediately.
